Rupees are the main currency used in The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Most shops and characters take these gems in exchange for their services or items. Unfortunately, the only items that can be sold to shops in Breath of the Wild are armor, materials, and food.

The quickest way to earn Rupees, also known as rupees farming, in The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is to start cooking. See the Cooking Food and Elixirs section for an in-depth guide. Create complex food dishes using the materials you find throughout hyrule. Fruits, meats, mushrooms, and vegetables can be put together to create meals. Monster parts, bugs, frogs, and lizards will create elixirs. Sell these to general stores for quick rupees.
Gems are another way to earn rupees. While exploring Hyrule, look for ore deposits on the side of mountains or inside caves. Smash them open to possibly obtain some rare gems. These can be sold to general stores or used to upgrade jewelry and armor.
While exploring Hyrule, you might come across glowing, blue rabbit-owl hybrid creatures. These are called Blupees, and are often found near Great Fairy Fountains. Blupees cannot be killed like other creatures in the world. Attack them from a distance with a bow and arrow, and they’ll drop the Rupees they’ve collected before disappearing.
