Pokemon Red and Blue Walkthrough

Fuchsia City Gym

The Fuchsia City Pokemon Gym is quite a bit different than the rest of the Pokemon Gyms. The gym leader specializes in poison-type Pokemon, but the majority of the Trainers use psychic-types. It also has invisible walls to confuse challengers. Look for offset lines in the floor to see these walls. All you have to do is follow the east wall, go north, west, a bit south, and then east to the middle of the room. There’s also another Trainer on the far southwest side of the room that you can challenge before doing this reverse spiral towards the gym leader.

Fuchsia City Gym Leader: Koga

Koga specializes in the poison-type, and more importantly the poison status condition. All of Koga’s Pokemon have high defense and a decent special stat. They will reduce your Pokemon’s accuracy, inflict the poison condition, and hold out for as long as they can. Your best bet is to use a psychic-type attack and a Pokemon with a high special to take them out with little effort. Ground and bug-type attacks are also super effective against poison-types, but they rely on attack instead of special which may not cause enough damage.

Weezing is Koga’s strongest Pokemon. It doesn’t just poison your Pokemon like the others, it badly poisons them with the Toxic ability. Toxic’s poisons get worse and worse, reducing your Pokemon’s HP by a greater percentage each turn. Don’t forget about restoring items such as antidote and full heal! Weezing also knows the third strongest attack in the game: SelfDestruct. If his HP drops low enough without causing him to faint, there’s a good chance Weezing will blow himself and his opponent up. This move can be dodged with a ghost-type Pokemon, or by leaving the area with Dig or Fly.

Defeat Koga to receive the Soul Badge and TM06 Toxic. The Soul Badge increases your Pokemon’s defense stat.
