Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features a total of 27 base achievements on Xbox One and PC, and 28 Trophies on PS4 for the Platinum Trophy. An additional achievement / trophy was added with the free Spec Ops DLC.
Press [BOOM] to Defuse
Description: Blow up 3 tripwires with explosives.
This achievement can be accomplished in the mission “Hunting Party.” Tripwires will be positioned throughout the hospital. Throw a grenade near the tripwire to blow them up.
Ashes to Ashes
Description: Burn 4 enemies with a single molotov.
This achievement is easily done in the mission “Proxy War.” Molotovs will be provided by your allies on the battlefield. During the assault, a small vehicle will come in carrying four people. Throw a molotov at this vehicle to kill them all in one shot. Groups of enemies can also be found around the little mobile bunkers.
Hang Time
Description: Kill 3 Enemies while you are on a ladder.
This achievement can be accomplished in the mission “The Wolf’s Den.” Near the end of the mission, the whole cave will go up in flames. As you climb the ladders, you should be able to locate and shoot a few enemies around the area. Hold the aim button to bring up the pistol while on a ladder.
Long Way Down
Description: Crash a helicopter by shooting the pilot.
This achievement can be accomplished on the mission “Proxy War.” At the start of the mission, grab the Kar98k sniper rifle. Rush through the wall with your team and kill some enemies around the shipping containers. Some helicopters will fly in shortly after. Shoot the pilot with your sniper rifle to earn this achievement / trophy.
Wild Fire
Description: Take down a flying Helicopter with a molotov.
This achievement can be accomplished in the mission “Proxy War.” Your teammates will provide molotovs on the battlefield. At one particular segment, a small helicopter will fly towards the team between a group of trailers. A molotov can be thrown directly at the helicopter, and if timed right it will take down the helo. If you miss the helicopter, restart the checkpoint and try again.
Good Effect on Target
Description: Kill an enemy with a direct hit from a smoke grenade.
This achievement can be accomplished on the mission “Hunting Party,” and should be attempted on lower difficulties. An enemy won’t die with a smoke grenade hit alone. Shoot them in the leg with a pistol once or twice before throwing the smoke grenade to earn a kill. Also, enemies might drop to the ground and crawl around after behind shot. If you see this, quickly run to them and throw a smoke grenade for an instant kill.
Out of the Fire
Description: Complete every single player mission on Veteran or Realism difficulty.
Tea Time
Description: Complete the single player Campaign on any difficulty.
Nothing but Net
Description: Neutralize the ‘Fog of War’ machine gun with a frag grenade.
A machine gun will appear near the beginning of the first mission, “Fog of War.” All you need to do is kill the combatant operating the machine gun using a frag grenade. Hide behind the train cars and shoot the lights to safely get close enough.
Trigger Discipline
Description: Do not injure any civilians in ‘Piccadilly’.
This achievement can be very tricky. Watch your shots, use cover to protect yourself and wait for an opening, and then shoot when everything is clear. Civilians will run out of most buildings and the subways.
Play Dead
Description: Kill all the enemies in the ‘Embedded’ field of dead bodies.
This is towards the end of the mission “Embedded.” When you reach a large field with a number of dead bodies, Farah will tell you enemies are coming and to hit the floor. Kill all the enemies that come here to unlock the achievement / trophy. You may need to hide behind the large dumpster to avoid gunfire.
Companion Block
Description: Only use one cinder block and bring it to the end of ‘Embedded’.
In the mission “Embedded,” you will need to carry a cinder block throughout the area to gain entrance to all areas and go undetected. Make sure you use the same block throughout the mission to earn the achievement, even if you throw it down to pick up something else.
Wall Hax
Description: Save Alpha 3-2 from being downed.
This achievement can be accomplished in the mission “Clean House.” Your teammate (Alpha 3-2) will get shot and downed as you move onto the second floor. Captain Price will say “Bravo Six moving to the second floor.” You will have to stay behind your teammates to allow them to move forward, but then quickly move to the stairs to line up your shot. Shoot through the door the instant your hear a voice from inside to kill the enemy and save Alpha 3-2. You can always reload the last checkpoint and try again. Open the door to see where the enemy is to perfectly line up your shot next time.
Golden Path
Description: Complete ‘Clean House’ without being hit using one bullet per threat.
This might take several attempts, even on the easiest difficulty. Memorize the locations of all enemies and be quick on the trigger to avoid being shot throughout the “Clean House” mission. Only a single bullet per enemy is required. If you are hit by a bullet, load the last checkpoint and try again. Love from Above
Description: Destroy 4 trucks with 4 drone strikes before they reach the end of their path in ‘The Embassy’.
This achievement can be accomplished when the team takes to the rooftops with the mortar flare. Use the laser designator to call in a drone strike on the incoming drones. The drone strike will take a second or two to come down, so try to aim where the truck will be instead of where it currently is.
Pit Stop
Description: Stop three APCs with Hadir’s sniper rifle.
This achievement can be accomplished on the mission “Higway of Death.” After the initial fight, several APCs will drive in. Shoot several tires to stop an APC in its tracks. Remember to aim in front of the vehicle to make up for the distance.
Driver’s Ed
Description: Shoot the driver of the suicide truck.
This achievement can be accomplished on the mission “Highway of Death.” After the APCs, a suicide truck will drive in with armor plating guarding the driver. Shoot the armored plating to remove it, then shoot the driver to kill him and destroy the vehicle.
Two Birds
Description: Kill both soldiers with one shot in ‘Hometown’.
This achievement can be accomplished at the end of the mission “Hometown,” when the two children go into the field of flowers. Two soldiers will be near a truck. Use the cell phone to get their attention, sneak by, and line them up for a single shot. You might need to try the cell phone more than once if the two soldiers don’t stand together. Try to get one shot through the upper body of one soldier and the head of the other soldier.
Tunnel Rat
Description: Complete ‘The Wolf’s Den’ tunnels using only the 1911.
This challenge only begins after entering the tunnels. Use ONLY the 1911 handgun and aim for the head or upper body. If an enemy dies from a melee kill, a grenade, or a trip wire, reload the last checkpoint and try again. Only use a single bullet or two per enemy to conserve ammo. More ammo can be found from another 1911 that’s on the mine cart where the fire erupts. The only difficult part in the entire mission is to dodge the machine gun. Wait for the gun to cool down between firing, then run from cover to cover until you reach the hole in the wall to the right of the gunner. The achievement / trophy will unlock after defusing the bomb at the end of the level.
Dodged a Bullet
Description: Never get hit by the sniper while escaping captivity.
This achievement can be accomplished on the mission “Captive.” After escaping the prison, a sniper will attempt to shoot you from a distant building. Look for the red laser to avoid its sights, and listen for a sniper shot to ring out before running out from cover. Reach the sniper’s building and take out the sniper to complete the challenge. It’s possible, though difficult, to kill the sniper from the outside of the building. It’s best to go inside the building and wait for him to come around the catwalk for a clear shot.
Got Something on Your Face
Description: Spit on Barkov.
This achievement can be accomplished on the mission “Captive.” At the start of the mission, you will be interrogated by Barkov. When options pop up on screen to answer Barkov, click the attack button (RT/R2/Left Mouse Click) to spit.
Hot Swap
Description: Get at least one kill with eight different weapons when completing ‘Old Comrades’.
This is best done on lower difficulties. Get a kill with a weapon, switch your weapon, get another kill, then pick up a new weapon and get another kill. Continue doing this until you get eight kills with eight different weapons. The achievement / trophy should unlock at the end of the mission.
Lights Out
Description: Shut off the power to 4 buildings in ‘Going Dark’.
In the mission “Going Dark,” you will enter several buildings to gather intel. Walk around the perimeter of the building and search for an electrical box. Interact with the box to shut the power off. Do this to four buildings before going to the main building.
We Own the Night
Description: Kill all enemies at the Church, Clocktower, and Pool without anyone calling for backup.
This can be accomplished in the mission “Going Dark.” Use the dark as your ally, and shoot any lights along the way. Avoid the technical driving around as you make your way from building to building. Once you reach one of the objective buildings, shut the power off using an electrical box attached to the side of the house and sneak in to find the hostage. Kill everyone in the area with a quick headshot or a few headshots to the chest, but make sure it is with a suppressed weapon. If the enemy is alerted and calls for back up or fires their weapon, load the last checkpoint. Try to listen for any voices to locate any remaining enemies in or around the area. The achievement / trophy will unlock the instant the last enemy is killed.
Warheads on Foreheads
Description: Reach Barkov’s lab entrance using only drone strikes.
This can be accomplished in the mission “Into the Furnace.” Your team will climb the mountain side to reach Barkov’s lab. Stick close to your team and only use the laser designator to call in drone strikes.
Circus Tour
Description: Kill at least one enemy while inside The Reading Place, Aural Chic and both Subway undergrounds.
This can be accomplished in the mission “Piccadilly.” Enter these four areas and kill at least one enemy before reaching the Tanto building and ending the mission. View my video walkthrough pages to see this done.
Liberation
Description: Complete all Special Ops missions.
Special Ops is the four person co-op mode added for free to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. More Spec Ops missions have been added over time, but this achievement only requires the original four missions to be completed. These four missions are found under the Special Operations menu, and are Operation Headhunter, Kuvalda, Paladin, and Crosswind.
