Basics
Resogun is a simple jet-shooter game set on one of five levels. Each level has its own set of enemy ships, but the design is always a small area that allows you to fly in a circular path, although the view is set from the side. It’s almost like an infinite side scroller since the area is just a large circle!
The objective of the game is to save the humans on each level and defeat all enemy ships. To do this, you must destroy green ships to unlock one of ten humans from the ten boxes around the level. Destroy these ships quickly or the humans may die inside their locked cells. Once the human is released, fly next to them and carry him/her to one of the several pods around the level. If you don’t save a human fast enough, they can be abducted by another ship, or they can fall off a cliff to their death. If you are transporting a human and your ship is destroyed in the process, the human will die alongside you. Carrying a human to a pod will give you an extra life, extra bomb, more points, a shield for a short period, power up your weapon, or power up your overdrive.
Controls

Bomb | R2 | Use a bomb to destroy all enemies on the level. |

Skills
Each ship has their own main weapon that can be upgraded with power ups. There are also three skills that can be used.
Boost allows you to either get away from or get to your enemies quickly. Why would you want to get to your enemies faster than usual? The only living enemy may be on the other side of the level. You will need to keep destroying ships to keep your scoring chain going. While boosting, you will be invincible, and can even destroy enemy ships with direct impact. Destroying enemies while boosting will regenerate your boost meter a small amount and cause a larger explosion at the end of the boost. Before you can use the skill again, you must wait for the small half-circle gauge above the ship to recharge.
Overdrive increases the power of your main weapon by a significant amount and slows down time. It can only be used for a short time, and can be upgraded through power ups.
Bombs will clear the entire level of enemies for the moment, but this may cause you to lose your multiplier. Only use it in dire situations. If you hold on to some bombs and complete the level, you will earn bonus points.
Points and Scoring
After saving the humans, the main aspect of Resogun is the scoreboard. You will earn points by rescuing humans and destroying enemy ships. Keep firing on enemy ships to build up your multiplier and earn even more points. The faster you kill enemies, the higher and faster your multiplier will climb.
If you stop firing at enemy ships for a short time, your multiplier will reset back to 1x. The exact amount of time for the multiplier to reset and the highest multiplier available all depends on the difficulty you’re playing on. The higher the difficulty, the faster the multiplier will reset; and the higher the difficulty, the higher the multiplier.
- Recruit – 5x
- Experienced – 10x
- Veteran – 15x
- Master – 20x
Ships
There are three ships to choose from, each with three different stats. The agility allows the ship to maneuver around each enemy on the level.
Ship | Agility | Boost | Overdrive |
---|---|---|---|
Nemesis | 7/10 | 6/10 | 2/10 |
Ferox | 5/10 | 5/10 | 5/10 |
Phobos | 4/10 | 4/10 | 7/10 |
Walkthrough
There are a total of five levels in Resogun. Each level is a circular shape with ten humans that need rescuing. Enemy ships will appear in this circular level and try to kill or abduct the humans. Save all ten humans and defeat the enemy forces to complete the level.
Each level consists of three phases. Earn enough points to complete phase one and two while rescuing humans. The third phase is the boss battle. A very tough, and very big, enemy ship will appear on the level, but it gives you some time to clear out the remaining enemy ships before it starts attacking. Defeat the boss to clear the level and continue on.
Each level must be unlocked in order on each difficult. The first three difficulties will be available from the start, but the fourth must be unlocked by completing all five levels on Veteran difficulty. The difficulties are Recruit, Experienced, Veteran, and Master.
Below are summaries of all boss battles on each level with tips on clearing them out.
Acis
The first boss battle is a large, wheel-shaped ship. Once it fully appears, you must shoot and destroy three protective plates on its side. in between these plates are guns that will fire slow-moving fireballs. Dodge the fireballs as much as possible and destroy all plates.
After the plates are destroyed, you will be able to fly within the ship. Be extra cautious, simply touching the sides of the ship will cause your ship to explode. You next objective is to destroy the protective plates that are covering the main core. These plates are placed back to back, which makes them tough to destroy on harder difficulties. Each time you destroy one plate, the ship will rotate in the opposite direction. Another defensive measure within the ship are some sort of energy beams. Avoid the read lasers as much as possible. After a few seconds, the red lasers will turn to energy beams that can destroy your ship.
Blast the ship’s green core to destroy it and clear the level.
Ceres
The second boss battle is similar to the first. It’s another large, wheel-shaped ship. Destroy the green spots on the outside of the ship while avoiding fireball turrets. Destroying a green spot will weaken the ship and make it rotate in the opposite direction. If you like, you can fly above or beneath the ship to quickly get to another green spot. The ship will also start firing energy beams from the destroyed green spots, so be careful where you’re navigating around the beast.
On higher difficulties, the ship will change shapes and fire missiles and fast moving fireballs. Dodge all the attacks and wait for the ship to point it’s green sides towards you. Destroy both green panels to eliminate the ship and clear the level.
Decima
The third boss battle is nothing like the other two. The ship is square in shape, and will shoot fireballs at every angle you can fly to it. Navigate between these fireballs and keep firing at the ship to destroy it.
Of course, the battle isn’t all that easy. You will see the ship’s main defense is creating a copy of itself. Shoot this white-colored copy and avoid any fragments that fly off. Make sure you keep avoiding the fireballs, as well! You may think you could simply fly around the back side and continue shooting the ship, but the copy will change sides to protect the mother ship. When you have a clear shot at the real ship, blast away until it is destroy and the level is cleared.
Febris
The fourth boss battle is a ship in the shape of a large bouncing ball. The main goal here is to fire at the shell of this ship until the red core is exposed. Once exposed, blast away at the core until the ship is destroyed and you clear the level.
The ship will be bouncing up and down during the fight while firing missiles at you. This missiles fly in a relatively straight line, so if you’re at the bottom of the screen when they fire, head to the top to avoid them. Also, make sure you do not stand too close to the ship or it may rush towards you and destroy your ship.
Mefitis
The fifth, and final, boss battle is the toughest yet. It’s a ship that will flow around you like a pixelated octopus. Avoid being trapped by it and blast at any spot you can.
From time to time the ship will rush directly at you. Avoid its lunges by flying to the top and bottom of the screen whenever possible. When you see several vertical red lines along the screen, avoid these or you will get attacked by the ship’s tentacles that are running from the top down or the bottom up.
As the fight progresses, the ship will start shooting fireballs at you. Dodge the projectiles like usual and keep firing at the ship. You will also see several red rings around the screen, similar to the red vertical lines from earlier. These red rings are where the ship will extend its pixelated tentacles to, so avoid them as much as possible. Deal enough damage to the ship to destroy it and clear the level.
Trophies
Resogun features a total of 34 trophies: 1 Platinum, 5 Gold, 9 Silver, and 19 Bronze. They have been listed in alphabetical order for ease of indexing.
