Armor
Halo 3 allows you to customize your armor in Multiplayer. In the past you could choose colors and emblems to place on your armor. Now you can choose armor types all together. There’s Helmets, Chest Pieces, and Shoulder Pieces to choose from. Most are unlocked through earning achievements in the campaign or multiplayer. Some rare ones are unlocked only through special events.
Elite Armor
Elite Armor is the armor the Alien Covenant “Elite” players wear. There are less armor variants for them.
Ascetic
To get this armor you need to complete the achievement
Helmet: “Stepping Razor” (Triple Kill in ranked FFA)
Shoulders: “Overkill” (4 Kills within 4 seconds in ranked FFA)
Chest Plate: “Up Close and Personal” (Kill 5 enemies by melee in ranked FFA)

To get this armor you need the following achievements
Helmet: Overkill Achievement (4 Kills within 4 seconds in ranked FFA)
Shoulders: Steppin Razor Achievement (3 Kills within 4 seconds using an Energy Sword in Ranked FFA)
Chest Plate: Triple Kill Achievement (3 Kills within 4 seconds in Ranked FFA)
Flight
Helmet: Complete the Campaign on Heroic
Shoulders: Beat the mission “The Ark” on Heroic
Chest Plate: Beat the mission “Tsavo Highway” on Heroic
Spartan Armor
Spartan Armor is the armor for the UNSC Spartan players wear. There are lots of armor variants but not all come in complete sets. Some just include a helmet. Some include all three pieces.CQB (Close Quarter Battling)
Default Unlocked.
EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal)
Helmet: Complete the Campaign on Legendary
Shoulders: Beat the mission “The Ark” on Legendary
Chest Plate: Beat the mission “Tsavo Highway” on Legendary
EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity)
Helmet: Complete the Campaign on Normal
Shoulders: Beat the mission “The Ark” on Normal
Chest Plate: Beat the mission “Tsavo Highway” on Normal
Hayabusa
Helmet: Collect the original 13 Skulls
Shoulders: Collect the original 9 Skulls
Chest Plate: Collect the original 5 Skulls
Katana
Chest Plate: Earn 49 Achievements or 1000 Gamerscore
Mark V
The Helmet of the original Spartan from Halo 1.
Helmet: Complete the Achievement “UNSC Spartan” by obtaining the Rank of Sergeant Online.
Mark VI
Default Armor of the Spartan from the Campaign.
Default Unlocked.
ODST
Helmet: Complete the Achievement “Graduate” by obtaining the Rank of Private Online.
Rogue
Helmet: Complete the Achievement “Spartan Officer” by obtaining the Rank of Lieutenant Online.
Security
Helmet: Obtain 1000 Gamerscore worth of Achievements.
Shoulders: Obtain 750 Gamerscore worth of Achievements.
Scout
Helmet: Obtain the Achievement “Used Car Salesman” which is destroy a vehicle with three people in it on a ranked online playlist.
Shoulders: Obtain the Achievement “Mongoose Mowdown” which is splatter an enemy with a mongoose on a ranked FFA match.
Chest Plate: Obtain the Achievement “Too Close to the Sun” which is destroying a Banshee on the campaign or ranked online match using a spartan laser or missile pod.
Recon
Originally given in special events only or worn by Bungie Employees.
Helmet: Complete All Vidmaster Challenges (Achievements) on Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST
Shoulders: Complete All Vidmaster Challenges (Achievements) on Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST
Chest Plate: Complete All Vidmaster Challenges (Achievements) on Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST
Flaming Skull
Chest Plate: Given only to Bungie Employees or won in special events.
